Dr. Gregory Barber, M.D.

Psychiatry and Psychotherapy in Maryland, Virginia, Washington, D.C., and New York

I am a board-certified psychiatrist with extensive training and experience in psychotherapy and psychiatric medications. I primarily use psychodynamic psychotherapy, an open-ended treatment which gives patients the freedom to explore how life experiences and relationships affect their mind today. I also draw from cognitive and dialectical behavioral therapies, and from mindfulness practices. I use medications judiciously to help manage psychiatric symptoms. I treat a broad range of mental health conditions, including anxiety, depression, obsessive compulsive disorder, trauma, bipolar disorder, psychosis, sleep problems, and substance abuse. I also work with people experiencing challenges with relationships, career difficulties, and major life changes, transitions, and losses.

I obtained my undergraduate degree in philosophy from the University of Pennsylvania and completed the Pre-Medical Studies Program at Georgetown University. I attended medical school at the University of Maryland and completed residency at the University of Maryland/Sheppard Pratt Psychiatry Residency Program. Aside from my work in private practice, I am a member of the American Psychiatric Association's national Ethics Committee. I also do clinical research in psychedelic psychotherapies. I am affiliated with the Washington Baltimore Center for Psychoanalysis, where I remain engaged in continuing education in psychoanalysis, and I supervise and lecture residents at the University of Maryland.

I am available for in-person and virtual treatment, and am licensed to practice medicine in Maryland, Virginia, Washington, D.C., and New York. If you have more questions about me and my approach, please reach out to set up a call.
